Lauren Cadel completed her Masters in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto in 2019, under the supervision of Dr. Sara Guilcher. Her thesis focused on exploring the attitudes, beliefs and experiences of community-dwelling adults with spinal cord injury/ dysfunction pertaining to prescribed and unprescribed medications.

Lauren is also a Research Associate at the Institute for Better Health at Trillium Health Partners. She has a passion for health services research and wants to continually explore ways to improve the delivery of health services and optimize patient experiences and outcomes.

Tara Gomes and David Juurlink, her PhD thesis focuses on using administrative health data to examine short-term adverse events that result from starting prescription opioid therapy. Qi’s broader research interests include methods in pharmacoepidemiology, safety and effectiveness of opioids, mental health and addictions, as well as maternal/child health. Qi is the 2019/2020 Co-Chair for IHPME’s Annual Research Day and is also heavily involved in IHPME’s Graduate Student Union.

"Your life does not get better by chance, it gets better by change." ―  Jim Rohn
Stephanie is a PhD student in the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute at the University of Toronto. She is co-supervised by Dr Sander Hitzig and Dr. Sara Guilcher. Prior to completing her PhD, she received her Bachelor of Applied Science in Kinesiology and her Master of Science degree in Biomechanics. After working in various positions as a research analyst both with the Sunnybrook Research Institute and University of Toronto, she discovered a passion for conducting research in individuals with limb loss. She is particularly interested in how this population conceptualizes their quality of life and long-term community outcomes.

In September 2019, Stephanie began her PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Toronto under the co-supervision of Dr. Sander Hitzig and Dr. Sara Guilcher. For her dissertation topic, she will work on developing a patient-reported outcome (PRO) on quality of life for people with lower limb loss. Currently, there are no dedicated PRO’s on quality of life in this patient population, and the development of this measure will provide clinician’s and decision-makers a better understanding of the challenges of living with limb loss from the patient perspective. As well as being a student, she is a junior editor for rehabINK, a student led digital magazine that is dedicated to producing captivating research and stories of rehabilitation science through the publication of peer-reviewed student work.

In 2018, Kay earned her honours Bachelor of Science from the University of Toronto in Physiology and Psychology. During her final year, she designed a study in psychopharmacology through the Department of Psychology. The project examined possible cognitive similarities and differences between current or prospective “study drug” users and students with ADHD. She also completed a science communications course through the Department of Physiology wherein she wrote a review of cognitive reserve building practices to protect against neurodegenerative disease.

In Fall 2019, Kay embarked on her Master's of Science in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. She is excited to pursue her interests in better medication management and health care system experiences for persons with complex needs. Under the supervision of Dr. Sara Guilcher, her thesis will investigate the conceptualization and experiences of medication self-management in community -dwelling persons.

Teagan is in her third year of the Doctor of Pharmacy program at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy. She is actively involved at U of T, as a member of student council and on various student outreach and planning committees. Fitting with her interest in community outreach, Teagan’s research interests include vulnerable populations and health systems. Her current research project explores the perceptions and barriers to community pharmacy’s integration into a HealthLinks approach to care. Teagan hopes to use this knowledge of health system models to impact her career as a pharmacist through better integration and coordination of care.

Prior to coming to U of T, Teagan earned an Honours Bachelor of Science in Medical Science and Biology at the University of Western Ontario. In her time at Western, Teagan was a member of the varsity field hockey and rowing teams. In her free time, she enjoys exercising, baking, and reading. In the future, she hopes to learn a second language, hike through New Zealand, and practice clinical pharmacy.
